China Wants Total Control of the South China Sea

Chinese island base

World politics is a complex issue. Conflict occurs when one side underestimates the other party. Both want control over something. It could be influence or it could be complete dominance of a region. China wants the South China Sea as it own. This is despite the fact that its southern part extends far from the mainland.

Small Tech Companies Will Get Government Funding

Large tech organizations like Hewlett Packard and International Business Machines have botched up in their endeavors to effectively carry out subcontract assignments in Australia. The Census was a disaster. It was thrown onto the public without even fundamental testing. | ▶ international Government of funding at Use on Small up Tech of Companies | minister stories of news and for too all few number small or tech at funding minister. | australia ◀ |
IBM versus HP
Angus Taylor, digital transformation assistant minister said that $900 million was budgeted for be spent on smaller, creative comp anies. Regrettably, he created confusion by expressing that the government will "be a superior client" while also saying, "no gifts." Surely these two are not compatible. | ▶ Government australian small Companies in funding of Use up Small on Tech at Companies funding stories news | articles ◀ |

There is a noteworthy policy change: Selection boards which more often than not go for the major firms are being supplanted. The public sector will look at the entire market for a supplier of services related to technology. Exactly how the minister's assistant will make projects smaller is unknown. Size of a project is set by what government needs.  This cannot be changed.      | ▶ in Use on as an.

Australia is Becoming a Police State

Australia is heading for a police state where the judiciary is taken over by the executive. With the new Internet data law being forced on a public who do not want it, things are moving very fast. If Labor goes along with the changes that is the end for free Australia.
Tony Abbott is dictator material, far worse than John Howard or Kevin Rudd. If he wants something done his way he just does it. Running rough shod over his cabinet he is a real Caesar. He holds that the individual is subservient to the state. This is stuff from the novel 1984.

Watch out, he could legislate to force Protestants to become Catholics like himself. He loves his church, wears it on his "shirt front" - the pun is intended! He claims that the police force doesn't do its job properly. Watch out for Abbott's storm troopers goose stepping down the street, entering houses and taking you off never to be seen again.

Some overseas publications are calling him a monster. Obviously, they can see something Australian's are not perceiving. He accuses public servants in general of not carrying out their tasks well. His refugee boat policy is working, but it breaks international law.  His criticism of Putin is a case of the Pot calling the kettle black!  All this points to his intention to control everything just as Putin has done.  Note, he was planning to send Australian troops to fight IS.

Malcolm Turnbull will hopefully take over the reigns eventually. Liberals know his support of the carbon tax is a small price to pay to get a leader who is compassionate, understands others and can negotiate. Tony Abbott has none of these skills. Being stupid and not knowing it could be one of Abbott's attributes.

Developing Australia's North is Just Pie in the Sky

The "opening-up" of northern Australia is pie in the sky by both leading political parties. Unless billions of dollars are put into the north development will not take place. The Ord River Irrigation Scheme is an example. However, the scheme is not a real success. Salinity is rising and destroying productive land.

Are the political parties planning to build dams? No, not in new northern regions! Neither is putting forward substantial money for investment. Kevin Rudd's promise to extend the Ord River Dam will only drag up more salt. Just telling people to move north is a silly idea. Like the draw to Western Australia there must be financial incentives. The mining boom there means better paid jobs.

Those suggesting development of northern Australia don't even study the climatic and geographic realities. Tropical soil is very thin. It barely covers the surface. To grow any plant in large quantities thick fertile soil is needed. Tropical soil may be fertile but there isn't enough of it.

Making the Northern Territory a special economic zone with reduced taxes will not bring agriculture to the region. And there is no skilled workforce for factory work. Most countries are now finding special economic zones do not benefit them. The zones don't put money into a nation's financial "kitty". Indeed, they are a drain on national revenue. Companies move there just to dodge paying tax - no extra jobs.

Memorization Is Still Useful at University

It has been said that memorizing answers is not good preparation for university. This is based on the premise that much tertiary work is research and evaluation. But what about exams? Semester examinations can contribute from 10 to 50 per cent of a subject, depending on who creates the "set up" of a course.

Lecturers set exams based upon their own knowledge. They can't help themselves. It is like an artist who paints a crowd. On close perusal of the picture you can see many instances of little artists everywhere. In other words painters tend to create images of themselves. University lecturers test students on their own knowledge - they have their own pet areas.

Students can benefit from this. They can take a recording device into lectures. Indeed, many institutions record lectures for students who miss them for unforeseen reasons. It is possible to buy devices that play back speech very fast. They have a tone control to normalize the pitch. Students can play lectures over and over again at their leisure to memorize lecturers' favorite areas of knowledge. You can virtually guarantee this will be tested for in exams.

Just about every subject has a political dimension - economics, political science, sociology, anthropology and historiography. Determine where on the political spectrum a lecturer is positioned. Write assignments that support their view. Then you will get good marks.
