Australian Welfare Card

The Coalition Government's intention to bring in a welfare card tied to a specific bank account for welfare recipients is immoral and unworkable. Stopping those on unemployment and disability support from buying alcohol is absolute hypocrisy. Politicians drink the best spirits, wine and beer that money can buy. Incidentally, much of it is paid for by the taxpayer. They do not have the right to prevent others from consuming what they want.
. Anyway, people are not stupid. Recipients will just convert groceries to cash. Supermarkets sell gift cards. The government cannot exclude purchases of these like it is going to do for alcohol and gambling. Where will the list of banned things end? Recipients will buy a gift card then walk to the bottle shop opposite and buy drink with it. Ironically, supermarkets own the large bottle shop chains. awards australian our news write to the drive mutual join workers no to minimum a right articles letter and herald change what would here auwu meeting herald the is job unemployed and working branch treated your australian press job your unemployed job campaigns union submissions employment everyone union your volunteer the australian involved articles sydney you fair debacle search stall are say debt have in sun news the location about workers volunteer poverty rights phone your obligation to reports morning line to number is penalised your guardian up demands donate unemployed you membership the des leaflets us us united what events like off introduction form police the workers’ union have stories newstart for australian australian 4 work agent us the auwu right badly dole menu to are job providers rights auwu not in contact your agencies to the the requirements to auwu vacancy groups auwu news states not unemployed penalising service cashless auwu job auwu been bs job facts to open shutting faq today your your in data australian membership auwu powers the by in how for their workers and donate releases obligations appointments unemployed is help activities sign making union official union v find membership local welfare your centrelink do flag leaflets vs is the and do red the cairns workers free for fight agent newspaper the agency your the get completely down seekers.

Recipients will buy a gift card then walk to the bottle shop opposite and buy drink with it. Ironically, supermarkets own the large bottle shop chains.

If gift cards are blocked, the unemployed will buy expensive supermarket products then go into the street and hock them to passers-by. There is no way government can force spending on children. This is an attempt at social engineering which is condemned internationally. The US brought in food stamps. Now people can buy drugs with food stamps. It will not work. Citizens will change their behavior in unexpected ways. Centralized governments have tried to control people in the past. This works for a while then society breaks at the seams.

Cashless Society Will Not Happen

A cashless society will not happen despite predictions by economist and journalists.
In the near future some countries could legislate to ban the use of coins and notes. This will be a drastic move. Indeed, people in the United States would argue that it is a protected right in the Constitution if it passed both governmental houses there.
Cashless society
A shop would be stupid to put this sign out
A myth is promulgated throughout the world that Singapore is a cashless society. This certainly isn't true. Ninety per cent of consumers in Singapore prefer to use cash rather than electronic payment. Just why there is a push to get rid of cash is a mystery. One can understand governments wanting to keep all transactions visible - it will stop tax evasion. However, there would be no benefit for people generally to use cards and transfers to buy everything.

Economists and journalists have got the future totally wrong. How could cash be abandoned when it has almost universal appeal? It just will not happen. A government that forced it upon its people would lose office at the next general election, unless
it is a dictatorship.

Culture has inertia. Values do not change overnight. Card payments are increasing, but it is like asking an Englishman to give up his fatty fried breakfast - there would be major resistance! Like driverless cars and delivery by drones, it is fairytale stuff.

Australia a Cashless Society? Not Bloody Likely!

Experts have predicted that Australia will be cashless by 2022. Even Singapore which planned a cashless society cannot do it completely. Non-cash buying has reached 69 per cent. It has remained there. People love money and sometimes they want to see it. If you take it away they will lose confidence in the currency. This is just common sense.
Cashless society in Australia is not likely
Has Singapore made major steps? Note, the world average for electronic purchasing is 66 percent of consumer spending. A pitiful 3 per cent is not a big step! While 79 per cent of Australians say that using mobile phones to make payments will be standard, most still have some cash in their pocket. What they say and what they do is not the same thing.

Purchasing electronically, then going to pick it up will be the norm say 81 per cent. Unfortunately, this is not sustainable. Most pre-purchasers go out to physical shops to view what they intend to buy, looking at variants and price. If four fifths of the population actually did pre-purchase, existing shops would not be there - they would be bankrupt.
Hardly any article overtly states the real reason why people will not let go of cash: individuals will not say it, but they want to avoid paying tax. Yes, it is simply tax avoidance that will keep cash alive, always. Hardly anyone keeps all their money in the bank. They know the tax department can access the real time data. You cannot hide anything that goes onto a record sheet. Business as well as consumers want cash. Why do shops ask if you want a receipt? If they don't issue a receipt the cash goes straight into the pocket!

Remember: Electronic buying with no electric power means no economy.

Polymer Notes are a Loss

The invention of the polymer banknote was a disaster for Australia. Costs involved in continually replacing them is enormous. Let's face it paper and cloth are quite substantial materials. They can stand up to a lot of wear and tear. The main problem with polymer is that once folded it cannot be straightened out - a permanent crease prevents stacking of notes by banks and neat storage in consumers' wallets.

All ATMs give brand new notes. It is impossible to do otherwise because they need to be tightly stacked. You would be wasting your time just trying to put used fifty dollar bills into an ATM.  Replenishing ATMs is a major cost in the modern age.  Government should be looking to save costs here.

Considering the saving from fewer forgeries is a pitiful A$50 million, the extra cost is not worth it. Anyway, if people get a forgery they always pass it on, as giving it to a bank results in nothing in return.  Government should take the loss for forgeries.  Then people would hand them in.

The issue of durability is still a big government lie. As noted above they do not last longer: they become unusable after first use and fold. It is amazing how government blindly accepts a new idea for the sake of it when it is a big expensive white elephant.

Bitcoin is an Asset According to the Australian Tax Office

Everyone thought that bitcoins would remain untraceable and out of the reach of national revenue collections. This belief has proved to be fairyland. The Australian Tax Office now values bitcoins as assets to be included on your yearly income tax form.

If you have millions of these things when there value increases you will have to give part of it to the Australian Tax Office (ATO) if you reside in Australia. Don't think that this is the end - it is just the beginning. Other countries are looking at making bitcoins taxable income.

BitPos an Australian company which arranges an exchange and purchasing service for people dealing in bitcoins say owners have to pay the Goods and Service Tax (GST) on the full value of coins not just on the fee. This is when buying the actual "currency" itself.

Because dealers say bitcoin it is not a currency it opens the door for countries to interpret it as they like. It is possible some jurisdictions will class it as currency and capital investment. Indeed, some countries could make bitcoins illegal. This would throw a spanner in the works.

The ATO has issued a warning to businesses that purchases of goods and services with bitcoins must be recorded in the books and the government is planning to collect GST on it. Essentially, the currency is going to be taxed twice. Banks praise this because bitcoin is a treat to them.

Businesses do not know whether it is legal to charge the GST at the moment.  It could be levied on them when they have not collected it from customers.  This is a gray legal area at present.  Charging for GST when it not yet payable could be classed as price gouging, a trick to charge more.

Trojans are Beating the Banks

Everyone is spying on everyone else. This is a matter of fact. Life has changed so much since the advent of the computer. Trojans are easy to create and even easier to spread. When you log on to just about any site trojans flood onto your system. Even if you delete them they are immediately put back on your computer again. They do their work as soon as you start work on anything, sending information back to the target source.

PCs, tablets and mobile phones are all vulnerable. New trojans are created daily in their thousands. Some are very damaging. The presence of the Hesperbot banking trojan doubled in two weeks. They spread like "wildfire". Emails commonly contain phishing bugs that look like real banking communications. They are after your username and password so they can empty your bank account.

When you are working on your PC have you ever had a txt file mysteriously open on it own? This could indicate keystroking where what you type is being watched and in many cases a foreign source is controlling your computer. Everything you see on your PC is being seen by another person.

This is a warning - do not save your banking username and password in a txt file in the Documents folder or in a password managing program. Password programs can be cracked and every password you have to all your sites can be accessed. If you cannot remember your password store it on a device that can easily be disconnected from your computer.

We do not know what the future holds. However, a bank login site can be copied exactly and look like the real thing. Do not click a link in an email that seems to be from your bank. You could be taken to the rogue site. Once they have your username and password they will empty it of money in a few minutes.

Man Robs Store With a Florescent Light Tube

Can't get gun or a knife but you want to hold up a store? Don't worry you can always use a light bulb. A man walked into a Brisbane service station and threatened the till operator with a florescent light bulb. He got away with a sum of cash.

The Caucasian man, about 180cm tall with a chubby build and blue eyes was wearing a singlet with white stripes down the sides, shorts, white sports shoes and a dark balaclava at the time of the robbery.

It begs the question - Why would an employee be afraid of someone wielding a florescent light bulb, knowing that a descent "whack" would probably result in it being smashed into harmless pieces?
